book thrown at mr. p, pg 31.Arnold gets suspended for throwing a math book in Mr. P's face. He is irritated that the one subject he was excited about -- Geometry, was going to be taught dated. The geometry he was going to be taught was going to be the same level of geometry his mother was taught. There were no updates or upgrades in the education system on the reservation. This infuriated Arnold because the reservation literally was never going to become better if they were teaching the same exact thing as they had been teaching 30 years prior. At that moment, when Mr. P later had the conversation about the situation on the rez .. Arnold knew he had to get out because the reservation had no hope.

jr gets to school, pg 88.Junior always struggles to get to school. Each week he finds it difficult because of the poverty he faces. He hitchhikes, walks, his mom gives him a ride instead of his dad, car breaks down, etc. There always seems to be a reason for Arnold to struggle to get to school. I think this shows great motivation on his part because he could have easily said "this is too hard, I'm giving up". But, he persisted every single week no matter the struggles he faced that began very early in the morning.

last sip of wine, pg 170.In this drawing, Arnold drew all the possible ways that Eugene and his friend could have concluded to get the last sip of wine. There was a way of obtaining the last sip, through love, guilt, reverse psychology, sacred tradition, or.. how it really ended up with force. Arnold can't get over the fact that Eugene got killed BY HIS BEST-FRIEND OVER ALCOHOL. He is baffled at the idea because it's ridiculous to think that because of the desire to be drunk can force you to kill a person. I believe that this situation impacted Arnold because he realized more now than ever, that the booze would always make you act in an irrational manner.
